Reasoning Engine

Ground AI responses with deep integration to Kognitwin concepts.

Lesson

The AI world moves fast; if we are not moving at the same pace, might as well not move at all.

The lesson in full: After shipping the first version of the Reasoning Engine, which was based on plugins (v1), the AI landscape continued to change drastically. New reasoning/thinking models, structured output, multimodal, MCP, etc. were all released at a rapid pace. While we take pride in our architecture, moving on was the only option, including deleting and refactoring a majority of the orchestration code base.

What it is

An AI Orchestration Engine to enable AI capabilities in Kognitwin. The goal is to create a system that can answer questions with grounded facts and autonomously perform complex tasks by orchestrating multiple AI models and tools. This involves integrating various AI services, managing workflows, and ensuring seamless communication between different components. In a way, this is the biggest project I am responsible for. As of early 2026 I still own 90%+ of the code base and architecture. The orchestration system was originally co-authored by me and our chief architect (who then became our CTO and CPO), and was introduced together with the revised chat system. Before we pivoted to agentic (v3), this system went through 2 major versions: Plugin-based (v1, internally called SAR: Select plugin > Activate plugin > Respond), and Tool-based (v2, internally called RTS: Reasoning Tool Strategy).
