Task Orchestration V2
Jobs became tasks; foundation of orchestration.
Lesson
Throwing away ‘correct at the time’ solutions is as important as avoiding overengineering.
The lesson in full: While the work itself is foundational to the product, especially self-service and for future AI-driven orchestration, it is mostly about adopting prior art, picking the ones that can carry the product forward without overengineering while feeling no remorse for discarding ‘correct at the time’ implementations. It’s too easy to be tempted to just ‘pick the best out there’.
What it is
The second generation of task orchestration in Kognitwin: long-running jobs (data integration, contextualization, deployment steps) expressed as tasks in a pipeline with status, retries and provenance, runnable on a user’s behalf. While this is not a ‘novel’ idea, this lays the groundwork for the task system to operate as the backbone of more types of orchestration, including AI-driven processes that users can initiate and re-configure. Before: lessons from the international deployment, the data integration work and the CLI/SDK tooling. After: this pipeline is the execution substrate the Reasoning Engine later runs on, which is why AI orchestration landed with me.
