Drawings to 3D Scene
Agents are good at spatial reasoning now, why not tackle real problems in this space.
Lesson
There comes a time when a certain threshold is crossed and previously walled tasks are now closer to feasible.
The lesson in full: Tipping the scale can be a very gradual process. I was skeptical about the ‘spatial’ capabilities of GPT-6 Astra and Opus 5.5 as I was initially still evaluating them against coding and text-based problems. But domains that were once ‘interesting but not capable enough’ turned into ‘this can save time and bring real value’, which means one must be ready to invalidate previous assumptions and adapt quickly.
What it is
An agent reads P&IDs and layout drawings, builds a graph of equipment and process relations, generates a provisional 3D scene, then grounds it against laser scans. The discipline: every generated element carries the stage it is at, the evidence behind it and what would promote it. Generate from evidence, ground against reality, then simulate.
